Brand review · #6 on our India ranking

Teabox Matcha

Teabox is the best mainstream value on our ranking at ₹22/g, and the easiest of these brands to actually buy. It is also the only one where we found the brand contradicting itself about where the tea comes from.

Our verdict

The value pick, and the one we would still recommend to a first-time buyer on price. But a brand that cannot give a consistent answer about which prefecture its tea comes from should not be described as transparent, and we have asked Teabox to clarify.

Worth knowing

Our own reporting, verified 15 August 2026. Teabox’s India site describes the matcha as coming “from the best known Japanese region of Aichi” (in.teabox.com/pages/matcha-tea). Our India ranking has recorded Shizuoka, taken from the product’s marketplace listing. Both cannot be right. Aichi and Shizuoka produce materially different matcha: Aichi, and Nishio in particular, is a major tencha centre, while Shizuoka is better known for brisk, aromatic teas. We have left our card as Shizuoka pending a reply from Teabox rather than silently switching it, and we will publish whichever answer we get.

How this page was made. Prices and pack sizes were collected from the brand’s own site and Indian marketplaces and verified on 15 August 2026. Disclosure is scored only on what the brand publishes, not on what it tells us privately. Where a claim is the brand’s own and we could not verify it, the table says so. We hold no paid relationship with any brand on this site, and any free sample is stated on the entry itself. See our testing methodology and editorial policy.

Teabox, or anyone else: if something here is wrong, tell us and we will correct it. If you publish a pack date or a heavy-metal panel, your disclosure score changes, and we would rather report that than not.
