Are you a brand? Review is free and rank cannot be bought. See how to get featured and the six disclosure criteria.
How this list is ordered. Ranks 1–5 are our own tasting order: these are the five we have actually drunk, tasted August 2026, and we rank them by how they performed in the bowl. Ranks 6–14 are ordered by the composite score below and are Not yet tasted. That is why a score of 8.4 can appear below a score of 8.1: the two groups are ranked on different evidence, and we would rather show you that seam than hide it behind numbers we invented. Scores for the tasted five reflect the tasting; scores for the rest are unchanged.
Yūzen is a special case worth naming. It has no customer reviews at all, so more than half of the composite rubric returns near-zero for it. Its 8.2 is therefore tasting-led, not data-led. It also scores 5/6 on our six disclosure criteria, the highest we have recorded in India, missing only a pack or mill date, and it is the one brand here publishing named-laboratory reports (Envirocare Labs Thane, pesticides; Testtex India Mumbai, microbiology). It publishes no heavy-metal results despite claiming heavy-metal testing elsewhere, which is the gap between it and being this market's clear evidence leader. Yūzen supplied its products to us free of charge. No money changed hands in either direction, no coverage was promised, and Yūzen saw no part of this entry before publication.
Methodology, rubric v1 (scores shown above). Weighted by customer ratings (30%), popularity & demand (25%), authenticity (20%), brand reputation (15%), and price-to-quality ratio (10%). Only brands with real India availability included. Scores last calculated April 2026 under rubric v1; prices and pack sizes re-verified 15 August 2026. The two dates are deliberately separate: we re-check prices far more often than we recalculate scores.
Rubric v2, changing from August 2026, and why. Auditing Yūzen exposed a flaw in v1. It puts 55% of the score on customer ratings and popularity, which means a brand that publishes its prefecture, cultivar, harvest and milling method can rank below one that publishes nothing but has been on Amazon longer. That rewards age, not quality, and it is the opposite of what this site is for.
From v2, disclosure becomes a scored dimension: disclosure against our six criteria (30%), authenticity of sourcing (20%), customer ratings (20%), price-to-quality by ₹/g (15%), popularity & demand (15%).
The 14 scores above were calculated under v1 and are not directly comparable to v2. We are re-auditing all 14 brands against the six disclosure criteria and will republish the full list with v2 scores. Until then the v1 scores stay visible with this caveat attached, rather than being quietly swapped for numbers we have not yet earned.

Yes, if you drink matcha straight with water. Ceremonial grade from ILEM Japan or Mezame offers genuine umami and vivid colour that daily-grade cannot match. For lattes and cooking, a quality premium-grade like Teabox is better value.
