If your country is not covered yet

Most of what matters about matcha does not change with your postcode. Grade, harvest, cultivar, storage and price per gram behave the same everywhere, so these pages are useful wherever you are reading from:

Want your city next? Tell us where you are and what you are drinking. Reader requests decide the order we build these in, and café owners can submit a café for free.

We do not accept payment for placement. See our editorial policy.

About this coverage

Which countries does Know Your Matcha cover?

India and the United States both have full coverage. India has 14 brands documented and scored on quality and price per gram, plus city café guides for Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi. The United States has city guides for New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles, fifty cafés in total. Japan has a published growing-regions guide. Singapore, Australia (Melbourne and Sydney) and Canada (Toronto) have city guides too. Cafés in a further seven countries appear in our worldwide café list. Everything else on this page is marked planned.

Why is India the most detailed section?

The site started in India, which is where we can buy tins at retail price, whisk them side by side and visit cafés in person. Coverage expands to a new city only once we can test to the same standard rather than aggregate other people's reviews.

What does a planned label mean?

Planned means there is no published guide yet, only an intention to build one. We list planned countries so the structure of the site is visible, and we label them so nobody clicks expecting a review that does not exist.

How do you decide which city to cover next?

Reader demand first, then whether a city has enough dedicated matcha service to review honestly. A city with three cafés pouring the same culinary-grade powder does not need a ranking. If you want your city covered, tell us.
