Matcha Cafés in India

The 35 Best Matcha Cafés in India

Three cities, 35 cafés, re-verified in August 2026. Pick a city, or read on for what the Indian scene actually looks like.

Last verified 15 August 2026 · How we test

India's matcha scene went from niche to mainstream in about two years, and the speed shows. Most cafés serve matcha only as a sweetened latte, which hides both good and bad tea, and only a minority can tell you which prefecture their powder comes from. Where a café publishes or confirmed its supplier, we name it in the city guide. Where it does not, we say so rather than guessing.

Prices rose across all three cities through 2025 and 2026, tracking the Kyoto tencha auctions rather than local costs. A café that was excellent last season may be pouring different tea this one, which is why every entry carries a verification date.

Want to make it at home instead? Our India brand ranking scores 14 brands on quality and price per gram, and best matcha to buy first time explains the price-per-gram floor below which a ceremonial claim is not credible. Travelling? We also cover the United States and notable cafés worldwide.

Looking for something specific? Matcha near me lists every city we have visited, grouped by country. Matcha ice cream covers where to find a frozen option in India and how to make it at home.

Cities we have not covered yet

Matcha is opening well beyond the three cities above. Jaipur in particular has a growing specialty scene, and searches for individual Jaipur cafés serving matcha have climbed sharply this year. Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai are moving the same way.

We have not published guides for any of them, because we have not been. This site does not run a city guide assembled from other people's reviews, which is a rule we would rather keep than pad the list. All four are on the schedule, Jaipur first. If you drink matcha in any of them, tell us where to go, since reader mail is genuinely how we pick the next trip.

Matcha in India: questions

Which Indian city has the best matcha?

Bangalore has the most dedicated matcha cafés at 15, and the highest concentration of places serving it whisked with water rather than only as a latte. Delhi NCR is close behind at 14 and has the widest price spread. Mumbai has the fewest at 6 but the strongest specialty-coffee crossover.

How much does a matcha latte cost in India?

Between roughly ₹180 and ₹600 in 2026, depending on city and café. Bangalore starts lowest at around ₹180. Delhi has the widest range, up to about ₹600 at hotel and boutique venues. Mumbai clusters between ₹250 and ₹450.

Do Indian cafés say which matcha brand they use?

Most do not. Where a café publishes or confirmed its supplier we name it in the city guide, and where it does not we say so rather than guessing. If you want to know what you are drinking, asking which prefecture the tea comes from is the fastest way to find out how much the café knows.

Is matcha in India made with Japanese tea?

Usually yes, most cafés import from Japan, commonly Kagoshima, Shizuoka or Uji, but grade varies widely and culinary grade is common in sweetened lattes. That is a different question from whether it is good matcha, which is why we cover brands separately in our India brand ranking.
